| CONSERVATION
Cedar Bay Yacht Club has an environmental heritage that stretches back to the very birth of the facility. CBYC opened its doors in 1993 as one of Florida’s first environmentally friendly marina facility complete with a water recycling program, mangrove lined docks, and aerators strategically placed to improve water quality. In 2002, CBYC became one of the early adopters of the FLDEP Clean Marina program. CBYC was the first Clean Marina on Marco Island and the 54th Clean Marina in the State of Florida out of over 2,000 marinas.
CBYC has a deeply rooted philosophy in conservation thru access. CBYC believes that in order for citizens of Florida to appreciate and value the ecology they must experience it thru access. Experiencing the wide variety of wildlife and sea life in a pristine environment allows visitors to appreciate all that southwest Florida offers. When our citizen’s appreciate the environment and the life that inhabits it they value that environment. When the environment has a value they are willing to protect that very same environment. It is this belief in preserving the environment thru access that drives the many activities in which CBYC is involved.
- CBYC promotes and actively participates in Keep Collier Beautiful’s coastal clean up programs in the spring and fall.
- CBYC has co-founded with Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and funded with seed money a pilot program between the FLDEP and FLFWC called the MRCP-CC or Marine Resource Conservation Partnership of Collier County.
- CBYC’s General Manager serves on the board of directors for the Friends of Rookery Bay.
- CBYC actively promotes the Clean Boater program – sign up available at the yacht club
- USGC Auxiliary and the Marco Power Squadron regularly conduct boat inspections monitoring safety equipment and promoting environmentally safe boating.
- Recycling Program – CBYC has recycling receptacles conveniently located around the yacht club.
